LORI GOTTLIEB is a woman in her 40s who had a child by a sperm donor because she had not found a husband and wanted to have a child. So she decidedly wrote a book about what women want most out of life - even if they don't know it. The book is entitled" Him - The Case For Settling for Mr. Good "It's not a smaller waist line, not a better paying job; it's a husband, and by extension, children.
It's sort of unfair for LORI GOTTLIEB to decide that that is what every woman wants because I, for one, do not want those things and I'm already in my 30s. I see what family living is all about and that's not the life for me.
So yeah, I don't agree with that particular point that Gottlieb makes, and yet she does go on to write that any woman who disagrees with her is either lying or in denial. So I guess I'm in that category.
So what's Gottlieb's advice" FOR WHAT YOU CAN GET BECAUSE YOULL NEVER FIND THE IDEAL" she's right - women will never find the ideal man.
In Judaism, people marry because of common interests and goals; not because of true love, and perhaps that is the route we should all be following.
The problem is that women have too much experience in the dating world and by the time they reach their 30s, they have so many dealbreakers and lists of things they don't want that finding the ideal man of their dreams is an impossible feat.
So while I'm not the kind of girl who wants to marry and move to the 'burbs, I have plenty of girlfriends who do and perhaps they "learn a thing or to from what Lori Gottlieb has to say.
Taken from Lori Gottlieb: "Marriage isn't a passion-fest; it's more like a partnership formed to run a very small, mundane, and often boring nonprofit business."
